It’s been a minute since I’ve put “pen to paper” so to speak, so if you’re looking for a quick read about relationships and realizations then here you go.
The notion of “I complete me,” has been a frequent topic of conversation lately that I think is worth sharing because for some reason I missed the boat on this and thought that maybe some of you have as well.
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been in two serious relationships. They both ended the same way- unexpected and mendaciously. I thought that it might have been a fluke or pure coincidence that I could have fallen for the same type of person twice but then a couple of weeks ago something interesting happened. I found myself falling for the same type of person…again. I figured this couldn’t be based on pure coincidence so I chatted with my girls and that’s when I came to a realization.
What I realized is that we attract people who share the same grief, frustrations, inadequacies, etc. In essence, people end up with partners who are just as unhealthy as they are and as a result they will jump into relationships for the wrong reasons- whether it’s a rebound, a distraction, a personal gain, or to seek love from their partner because they don’t have enough love for themselves (this tends to be the most common reason). Duh! Why didn’t I know this before?
Well, now that this matter has been brought to my attention I’m committed to ending this repetitive bad habit and work towards being able to honestly say, “I complete me,” because once I do I’ll attract someone who is just as healthy and badass as myself. As they say, third time’s a charm! -NL
